FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - AUGUST 1, 2025
East Nashville-based indie-Americana artist Douglas Wayne returns with Saturn Burlesque, a contemplative follow-up to his 2022 LP Coyote. On this new EP, Wayne dives deep into the complexities of time, regret, and reconciliation, offering a more introspective and emotional chapter in his musical journey.
The lead single, Bottle Rockets, is a poignant reflection on returning home to confront a love lost twenty years ago. The songs raw emotion is amplified by the haunting vocals of Lilly Hiatt (New West Records), whose voice adds an extra layer of depth as she echoes the line, “I’m done chasing a young man’s dream,” capturing the heartache and yearning of both sides of the story.
“Every track on the EP, and especially ‘Bottle Rockets,’ is based on a true story,” says Douglas Wayne. “‘Bottle Rockets’ is the most real song I’ve ever written. It’s about coming to terms with the past and learning how to truly move on.”
About Hiatt, Wayne shares: “I can’t say enough good things about Lilly. She was a joy to work with in the studio. She brought so much heart to the track. As a fan, I’m also really excited to see where her new record goes.”
Track five, Freewheelin’, nods to Bob Dylan's early work but is no mere homage. In the singalong chorus, Wayne reflects on a life full of mistakes: “I’ve made so many mistakes—haven’t we all? You just gotta roll with it. That’s the point of ‘Freewheelin’.” Despite the heavy themes, the track carries an infectious energy and optimism, offering an uplifting antidote to regret.
Co-produced by Douglas Wayne and Daniel Dennis, Saturn Burlesque was recorded at Prime Cut Studios and Two Twenty-Two Studios in Nashville. With additional contributions from Lee J. Turner of the Darius Rucker Band and Hootie and the Blowfish, the EP delivers a rich blend of raw emotion and polished Americana.
With Bottle Rockets already spinning on Americana radio, Saturn Burlesque is set for release in early September. Stay tuned for a sonic journey through time, love, and acceptance. For more information, visit DouglasWayne.com.
